Toastmasters & My first attempt
When I think about any skill, my mind always divert me
towards one unique skill that is public speaking skill. I remember my school days where I used to
give speeches on occasion of Republic Day, Independence Day. But in between I diverted
from my real interest due to trouble some issues. I went far away from that
interest due to that my confidence level about public speaking dipped to bottom.
I never realize as teenager that what will be the impact of this on my life.
When I was pursuing my masters in computer I start realizing
importance of Communication & Public
speaking. I was literally stumbling with my public speaking skills. To overcome
all those public speaking issues I joined various courses. I did little bit of
progress in it. That tiny progress was sufficient for me that time. I survived
for time being but still there was urge to develop excellent communication
skills.
One day I was talking about self development program with my
friend on GTalk. He suggested me about the Toastmasters International club which
supports rather gives platform to develop communication & leadership skills.
I researched about club on web, after researching a lot I come
to conclusion that this club will really help me to polish my public speaking
skills.
That’s how I come in contact with Toastmasters International
club. Later I searched club in pune, after attending three Toastmasters club
meeting as a guest finally I made my mind to join that fabulous club.
I became a member of club, started my journey to get world
class competency in public speaking.
As a part of that I attempted my first speech which titles “I
have a DREAM”.
When I reached at club for presenting first speech, there was
little bit of fear that was obvious one but it did not allowed me to settle
till my speech is over.
Somehow I managed to start good with following quote “ Success or failure as a human being is not a
matter of LUCK, FATE, CIRCUMTANCES or any other tiresome old clichés, those are
just excuses. The power to achieve life of your DREAMS is in your hand. And
first step towards activating it is an Identifying goal which makes your DREAM
real. After all it is much easier to get out of life what you want when you
know where you are going. “
I succeeded to maintain my energy level, voice modulation
but could not do same with pace. I narrated my story from my child hood to career.
Spoke about various aspects of my life, career and obviously about DREAMS.
One thing that I found is, it’s little bit difficult to
maintain timeframe but eventually I cut down my speech to fit time frame.
Talking about end of speech, I did better there as well I ended
with quote “There are two types of dreams, One that have come true, and other
those are coming true”
Over all experience of club is fabulous hoping to maintain
pace & energy level so that my DREAM will become REAL
